Almost everything I know about our fascinating, amazing and rather terrifying West Coast geology, I learned from Tom, who was always happy to share information and answer questions in as much detail as I could assimilate. I believe he will be missed even more as time passes and his insights and advice come to pass. Thanks, RJ.
Oh, RJ, I'm so sorry to hear this news! Tom was a favorite of most of us who inhabited Gearhart in those days. I retired from my pastorate on Whidbey Island and came to rest in my favorite place on the Earth---the beaches of north coastal Oregon. He was ALWAYS there to greet us customers at the coffee shop on Gearhart's main drag and we heard many a joke, a story, a concern from our favorite longtime local. I had heard he'd been ill but he seemed indomitable and I assumed he'd be there if I came to visit after I moved to Astoria to serve the Pacific UU Fellowship. Rest in peace, dear Tom. You were (and still are) our Hero.
Thank you so very much RJ for this wonderful tale of our beloved Tom. We haven't even begun to realize how much we are going to miss him.
Thank you, RJ. A beautifully written tribute to a fine man and local treasure.

So true! Every conversation with him was an education!
